    and holistic way India is a growing research performing nation in terms of investment in science and technology and within the FP7 SSH programme it was one of Europe s major partners India is also an important country in terms of global societal challenges Expanding research networks and opportunities between the EU and India in the field of social science and humanities is thus crucial The overall aim of the EqUIP is therefore to develop the right conditions for enhanced collaboration between Europe and India in the Social Sciences and Humanities at the level of both research funders and researchers In particular EqUIP has four key objectives Provide a more coherent overview of the current scope of collaborative activity between Europe and India in the Social Sciences and Humanities Develop best practice approaches and indentify challenges for research cooperation between Europe and India in the Social Sciences and Humanities Identify through the networking of existing projects opportunities and priorities for future research collaboration between Europe and India in the Social Sciences and Humanities with a view to influence policy documents and future Horizon 2020 Work Programmes for the Societal Challenges Establish networks of pan European and Indian researchers in the

    developing common approaches In addition it will capture future interests of funders including those that are new to collaborations with India or Europe Result of this activity will be a Scoping Report on Existing Collaboration and Future Interests and Opportunities also available in the form of Executive Summary of the Scoping Report Developing best practices for EU India research collaboration Best practice will be identified and shared between organisations and institutions including the identification of the key challenges and barriers to effective research cooperation and collaboration To do so EqUIP partner organisations will meet in a Joint Learning Workshop where they will bring their experience on different bilateral and multilateral funding types and explore in particular issues related future possible scenarios for fruitful cooperation models between funding agencies and for EU India multilateral funding This experience will be summarized into a Best Practice Toolkit for research agencies to aide in future collaborations Also EqUIP partners will engage into an inter agency Staff Exchange Visits to facilitate deeper knowledge and understanding across partner organisations and their staff about their working methodologies Besides supporting individual agencies wishing to step up their international collaborative activities EqUIP also wishes to provide the foundations for future pan European collaborative activity with India specific activities will be dedicated therefore to develop a Report on Opportunities and Challenges for Extending the Network Creating opportunities and selecting priorities for future EU India research collaboration EqUIP will provide the basis for networking between funders and researchers Moreover it will identify and explore opportunities and priorities for joint initiatives between funders with a view to joining forces and support new joint programming activity where appropriate Funders and researchers will be brought together through a cycle of six Symposia Symposia will target European and Indian projects and researchers working on common
