    project will bring together 350 musicians from 36 countries The Branimir Slokar Academy emerged from the project Connecting through music with Maribor International Orchestra 2012 MIO2012 The project provides an excellent education for orchestra musicians and future soloists with the most sought after pedagogues and world class musicians like Latica Honda Rosenberg violin Martin Ostertag cello Božo Paradžik double bass Felix Renggli flute Emanuel Abbühl oboe François Benda clarinet Gustavo Nuñez bassoon Radovan Vlatković french horn Hans Gansch trumpet Branimir Slokar trombone Raymond Curfs timpani Peter Sadlo percussion Gregory Ahss violin concertmaster Klaus Arp conducting In addition the most outstanding soloists from Slovenia are collaborating as tutors to the orchestra In 2012 the Maribor International Orchestra 2012 75 musicians and the two conductors Klaus Arp DE and Živa Ploj Peršuh SI will again study two symphonic programmes and present them in concerts in Slovenia and on tour abroad The chosen composers this year are Brahms Haydn Tchaikovsky Rota Stravinsky Dvorak and two of the most famous Slovene composers Uroš Krek and Lojze Lebič As the European Union EACEA The Education Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency is supporting the Academy the co organisers agreed that the programme is to introduce the European idea the idea of unity and diversity The star and soloist of this year is the internationally renowned trombonist Branimir Slokar He has been involved in the project from the beginning and will be also an active professor of the master class for trombone All participants of the master classes will crown their work with a final concert The successful participants of the courses of conducting and concert master will perform at a concert with Maribor International Orchestra 2012 The concerts will take place within the European Capital of Culture Maribor 2012 and the Festival Ljubljana The participants of

    Director Berliner Festspiele Festivals The Association EFA Activities Sir Simon Rattle patron of next Music Masters on Air atelier in Ljubljana Ljubljana Wednesday 20 06 2012 From 20 to 23 June 2012 the next atelier of the collaboration project MusMA Music Masters on Air is organised in Ljubljana Slovenia The project brings together some of the most influential European festivals Its goal is to promote young composers of contemporary music from different European countries through exchange and to create a network to promote the new composers and musicians As patron of this upcoming MusMA event renowned Sir Simon Rattle will participate in the atelier It is hosted by the Ljubljana Festival which kicks off its 60th edition on 20 June with a concert by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Sir Simon Rattle The gathering marks the official start of the third MusMA cycle and involves festivals and composers from Belgium Serbia Spain Slovenia Turkey Poland Switzerland and Croatia The atelier participants will have the opportunity to take part in workshops master classes and lectures The atelier will close with a concert with performances of all MusMA III works held in the Linhart Hall of Cankarjev Dom One of the

    competitiveness and banks the crisis in the European Union has today been addressed through a different perspective by the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz During an exchange held with Paul Dujardin CEO and Artistic Director of the Centre for Fine Arts of Brussels BOZAR and various press representatives President Schulz highlighted the importance of young people and young artists to re strengthen the European project and reconnect it with its citizens Within the dividing debate taking place for the 2014 2020 budget at EU policy level between those advocates of more austerity and those of more solidarity he lamented the absence of culture in that debate With social cohesion he fears that culture could be one of the first policy fields which could suffer from financial cuts in the near future The following months will be crucial in this respect with the forthcoming position of the Parliament and the Council on the new Creative Europe programme for culture and media To the question raised by Mr Dujardin on how could culture and artists better help the European Union he firstly acknowledged that the biggest problem now is the mistrust between people against national and European public institutions He said that young cultural operators and artists are needed to give a new impulse to Europe They are those he believed who are able to mobilise young Europeans For young people the EU is precious only if it can help them for their future and make them feel that they are respected We cannot lose them he said To gather European citizens the President also highlighted the need for open places for people to defend the idea of Europe its values and enhance mutual understandings Beyond the image of Europe within its borders the President also recognised the importance of
