  • Essential Ocean Variables | BRIDGES
essential for ocean observation in a global context They include ocean physics biogeochemistry ocean biology and ecosystems and address the variables to be measured the approach to measuring them and how their data and products will be managed and made widely available In this context BRIDGES will map the requirement on the deep gliders and ground segment capabilities 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 The BRIDGES project started in 2015 and

  • MSFD and Copernicus | BRIDGES
information on the environmental descriptors is required to fully implement the Marine Strategy Framework Directive MSFD Gliders are autonomous and easy to operate with a long endurance at sea and can implement an ecosystem based management and document the environmental impact of ocean related industrial activity Networking of autonomous platforms also represents an efficient and effective approach to synoptic sampling of large ocean regions The Deep and UltraDeep Explorers will enhance present observational capabilities of the water column and the bottom increasing our understanding of its physical biogeochemical and biological processes They will also improve the present operational oceanography products by reducing the uncertainty of ocean forecasts through the standardized collection of in situ data in line with Copernicus objectives BRIDGES will detail the requirements in the monitoring programs generated by the MSFD and Copernicus marine services implementation by EU member states with respect to what ocean parameters should be measured from gliders and on what time space scales with what quality assurance and how data should be provided Glider configurations and missions will be designed to fulfill part of the needs of these monitoring programs 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 The BRIDGES project started in 2015 and will to

  • Living Resources | BRIDGES
will investigate the potential of gliders for exploration and mapping regarding living resources in the water column and at the seafloor The international Convention on Biological Diversity has established that it is critical to achieve conservation and long term sustainable use of marine and coastal living resources in a manner that respects both societal interests through the exploitation of living resources and the integrity of ecosystems As the relevance of micro organisms to the discussion of ocean resiliency and marine resource management is becoming central in marine sciences gliders and their sensors will play a central role as they are particularly suited to observe the micro organism level and the associated biodiversity at the relevant space and time scales Glider configurations and missions will be designed for the exploration of pelagic marine microorganisms for marine resource exploitation and management As benthic habitat can provide resources but can also be affected by marine activities like offshore aquaculture glider missions with hybrid propulsion at the bottom will be also considered 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 The BRIDGES project started in 2015 and will to demonstrate the operation of the new Deep and UltraDeep gliders by the end of the project in 2019

  • Get engaged | BRIDGES
In progress Get engaged Join our Exchange of Knowledge and Demonstration Programme BRIDGES is looking for interested and committed stakeholders throughout Europe to get involved in its Exchange of Knowledge and Demonstration Programme This opportunity will be specifically of interest to industries and research institutions that are exploring the ultra deep sea bed but are looking for less expensive technologies that offer increased functionalities stamina depth sensing etc Our Exchange of Knowledge and Demonstration Programme gives you the opportunity to be on top of the latest BRIDGES progress results to witness live demonstrations and most of all access to developers and manufacturers of deep gliders to discuss your specific user needs at all times For this purpose various international industry workshops and national seminars will be organized followed by a number of showcase organisations across the EU Check the BRIDGES website at all times to find out about opportunities or email us to make sure you will be personally invited in time 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 The BRIDGES project started in 2015 and will to demonstrate the operation of the new Deep and UltraDeep gliders by the end of the project in 2019 Deep UltraDeep gliders Bringing together Research
